Suzy Lee sought the scariest story in Korean folklore and arrived at an unexpected answer: not ghosts or nine-tailed foxes, but the Yeolnyeo (Virtuous Women) section of Samgang Haengsildo, a moral guide commissioned by King Sejong in 1434. These stories praise women who sacrificed their lives or bodies to preserve chastity. Reworking its text and illustrations, Lee confronts the violence and social expectations imposed on women through bold hot-pink graphics and a contemporary perspective.
